[00:06]<Nat> a ton of fun
[00:06]<@BC_Programming> heh that would be funny to put on a resume, apply as a surgeon

[02:17]<@BC_Programming> it's like some weird billiards thing with blocks flying all over
[02:18]<@BC_Programming> sadly I can't get them to texture again
[02:25]<@BC_Programming> oh right... texture coordinates

[07:34]<+camerongray> Hey Calum
[07:34]<@Calum> hey cameron
[07:41]<@Calum> ok seriously...whoever thought using "X2" as a stock code is a moron
[07:41]<@Calum> especially when the stock code displays before the name of the product
[07:42]<@Calum> because having X2 doesn't look like the product includes two of it, at all, does it
[07:43]<@BC_Programming> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xfcHm-CA840
[07:43]<@BC_Programming> Progress
[07:45]<@Calum> Are these raspberry pi's or something similar? Because it looks like something I want in my life
[07:45]<@Calum> http://i.imgur.com/zJHpEnv.jpg
[07:46]<@BC_Programming> what the heck is that?
[07:46]<@Calum> I have no idea but it looks awesome!
[07:46]<@BC_Programming> spaghetti!
[07:47]<@Calum> ok so it could use a little cable management
[07:50] * Transfusion (ravera@mib-8C79B439.node2.cu.cc) Quit (Ping timeout)
[07:53]<@Calum> oh man I thought I'd fixed my graphical issues but they seem to actually be worse
[07:54]<@BC_Programming> If you ignore them do they go away?
[07:54]<@Calum> if I don't look at web pages with too many images, or GIFs or any kind, or play games, then yes...lol
[07:54]<@BC_Programming> ahh... not quite the same as the giant pink elephant that tells me to murder then
[07:55]<@Calum> not quite
[07:55]<@BC_Programming> wait you cannot even view GIFs? that's pretty bad
[07:55]<@Calum> I can view some, but say if there's a page with 4 or 5, then they break up
[07:55]<@BC_Programming> thinking Graphics Memory issues maybe?
[07:56]<@Calum> it's onboard, so uses system memory, which all checks out OK. I think it's just the chip itself
[07:56]<@BC_Programming> ahh
[07:56]<@BC_Programming> it's funny because my Graphics Card idles at like 90 degrees and I can count on one hand the number of Blue-Screens it's given me
[07:56]<@Calum> I only have to put up with it for 4 or 5 weeks longer though so it'll be alright
[07:56]<@Calum> heh
[07:56]<@BC_Programming> I tried repasting it several times to get the temp down but it's persistent so I gave up on that
[07:57]<@Calum> does it look like it makes contact properly?
[07:57]<@BC_Programming> Oh I lied it actually idles at 79 degrees
[07:57]<@BC_Programming> I think I did get that down from 90 originally though
[07:58]<@BC_Programming> I can't remember... this was a few years ago
[07:58]<@Calum> fair enough
[07:58] * Transfusion (ravera@mib-8C79B439.node2.cu.cc) has joined #glitchpc
[07:58]<@BC_Programming> I'd take another crack at it but if I screw something up I won't be able to replace anything
[07:58]<@Calum> yeah
[07:59]<@BC_Programming> I remember when I first put it together
[07:59]<@BC_Programming> I was convinced I had broken the motherboard just installing the CPU
[07:59]<@BC_Programming> When I first powered it on, black screen "oh woe... I went and broke the motherboard"
[07:59]<@BC_Programming> Then I go to power it off "get out of my way, all four unopened packages of RAM"
[07:59]<@BC_Programming> "wait a second..."
[08:00]<@Calum> haha, nice
[08:00]<@BC_Programming> put the Memory in and it worked, that was a big relief
[08:00]<@Calum> yeah that often helps
[08:00]<@BC_Programming> I still have pictures from teh build when it was all new and shiny
[08:01]<@BC_Programming> if somebody saw my camera contents they would think me very strange
[08:01]<@Calum> lol
[08:01]<@BC_Programming> I mean aside from the fact that I take pictures of random computer parts
[08:01]<@BC_Programming> there is also the bit where I have a stuffed bird with his head stuffed in a jar, which would probably confuse people
[08:02]<@BC_Programming> In other news, this looks promising: http://www.workbc.ca/Jobs/JobSeekers/DisplayJobPostingApply.aspx?jobid=81526&from=search
[08:03]<@Calum> looks good
[08:04]<@BC_Programming> hmm thought I had a "technical but not programming" resume made already
[08:04]<@BC_Programming> maybe I should redo it anyways, may as well
[08:05]<@BC_Programming> resume=CV as I'm sure you know
[08:06]<@BC_Programming> just putting that here because camerongray isn't as slick as the rest of us
[08:06]<@Calum> indeed
[08:06]<@Calum> hah
[08:06]<@BC_Programming> he even questions people in CH? the nerve
[08:06]<@Calum> but they're always right
[08:07]<@BC_Programming> I mean when LostCoast says that GeForce is a Graphics card company, how DARE you correct him and say it's actually a brand name used by a company
[08:07]<+camerongray> Not Pis
[08:07]<+camerongray> Oh, I'm reading back :
[08:07]<@BC_Programming> lol

[08:09]<@BC_Programming> I think dealing with a word processor is a battle to outwit the pagination
[08:09]<@BC_Programming> "let me help by moving that last line from that paragraph to the next page, even though there is lots of room in this page"
[08:10]<@Calum> I had to fill out a form at work the other day, to assess my IT skills and determine if I needed training
[08:10]<@Calum> I found it a little odd
[08:10]<+camerongray> lol!
[08:10]<@Calum> questions like "can you use the spell checker" and "do you know how to insert a page break"
[08:10]<@BC_Programming> yeah that's a bit late I would think
[08:10]<@Calum> yeah just a bit
[08:11]<@Calum> apparently my supervisor was made to go on the MS Word course about a year ago
[08:11]<@BC_Programming> that's like going to a pilot in the middle of a transcontinential flight and asking "oh... do you have a pilots license? Forgot to ask"
[08:11]<@Calum> yep
[08:11]<@BC_Programming> Actually that happened where I sued to work
[08:12]<@Calum> what the pilot thing?
[08:12]<@BC_Programming> oh no I wasn't a pilot until later
[08:12]<@BC_Programming> when I downloaded Flight Simulator
[08:12]<@Calum> heh
[08:12]<@BC_Programming> but before, worked there for three years then they decided we needed to watch the training videos
[08:13]<@BC_Programming> stupid feel-good nonsense that wasted times and had to answer trivial Multiple choice questions
[08:14]<@Calum> ah yeah
[08:14]<@BC_Programming> If memory serves I simply hacked the XML data stream so I had finished everything
[08:15]<@BC_Programming> hmm my Resume doesn't have an "Objective"
[08:15]<@BC_Programming> arguably I figured it would be sort of self-evident
[08:16]<@BC_Programming> You don't apply to an IT job with the objective of becoming a Ballerina
[08:17]<@BC_Programming> though that sounds like a plot for a movie. A Programming nerd who overcomes his awkwardness through Ballet
[08:18]<@BC_Programming> I'm tempted to put in Skills "I have the unique ability to edit Word Headers and Footers"
[08:19]<@BC_Programming> Objective: To achieve perfect Inner Peace and satisfaction with the World around me and my place in it. Faling that, an IT position dealing heavily with technology"
[08:20]<@Calum> heh
[08:20]<@BC_Programming> I really do have to fight the urge to Joke on it
[08:20]<@BC_Programming> because I mean it could go either way
[08:20]<@BC_Programming> either "haha this guy is funny" or "this guy doesn't take it seriously"
[08:21]<@BC_Programming> or possibly "he uses big words. I don't like him. What does enunciate mean?"

[11:42]<@Calum> camerongray: I have returned to seek assistance on a network layout, I'm having a blank moment and I can't figure out the easiest way to make this work
[11:42]<+camerongray> lol, okay :P
[11:42]<+camerongray> My topology is "tangle"
[11:43]<@Calum> hah, well if it's a working tangle it'll be good enough for me
[11:43]<+camerongray> lol
[11:43]<@Calum> ok, so, let me describe what I'll have
[11:43]<@Calum> VM modem and a router in this room, 11 servers in the other room
[11:43]<+camerongray> As ya do :P
[11:43]<@Calum> intending to use powerline adapters to connect them
[11:44]<@Calum> I want decent throughput, which isn't going to happen with 200mbps connectors, and 500mbps are pretty expensive
[11:44]<@Calum> so my idea is, to use network teaming, somehow, to use two pairs of 200mbps adapters
[11:44]<@Calum> because then I get reliability, and almost as good speeds as 500mbps, but still cheaper
[11:44]<+camerongray> Hmm, that'll probably require a very expensive pair of switches
[11:45]<@Calum> ah the switch has to support it too?
[11:45]<@Calum> I wans't sure if it was just the NICs
[11:45]<@BC_Programming> hmm think I was a bit harsh on this muslim who kept trying to quote quran verses as proof that the quran is the word of "allah"
[11:45]<@BC_Programming> I ended up with
[11:46]<@Calum> perhaps I'll scrap that then, and just have a 24 port switch in the room with the servers, and a 500mbps powerline setup
[11:46]<@BC_Programming> "If you want to believe the stories from a pedophile that heard voices in a cave, that's you're perogative"
[11:46]<@BC_Programming> And yes that was completely random
[11:46]<@Calum> heh
[11:47]<+camerongray> Not 100% sure but I think the switches do need to suppor tit
[11:47]<@Calum> just looking at how feasible it might be to run a really long Ethernet cable...hmm...
[11:47]<+camerongray> How far is it?
[11:48]<@Calum> in a straight line, not far, but to get around the various doorways and the layout it's fairly far, for saying it's a small flat heh
[11:48]<+camerongray> Ahh
[11:48]<@Calum> I think a 25m or so cable should do it though
[11:48]<+camerongray> I'm going to use Cat 6 for everything in the flat
[11:49]<+camerongray> Going to need a lot of those cable speed bump things :P
[11:49]<@Calum> it would just have to run a really weird way to avoid people tripping over it and stuff....
[11:49]<+camerongray> Ahh, then you could get those speed bumps
[11:49]<@Calum> true
[11:49]<@BC_Programming> oh apparently it's possible to get brain transplants
[11:49]<+camerongray> lol!
[11:49]<@Calum> it would have to run right across the middle of a wall though, I think, which would look pretty bad
[11:49]<+camerongray> Ideally we would mount them to the walls, but we can't fix anything to the walls in the flat
[11:50]<@Calum> we're not really meant to, but we can so long as we fill the holes, so no biggie
[11:50]<+camerongray> Ahh
[11:50]<+camerongray> We can't use blu tack - No joke!
[11:50]<@Calum> problem: I have a choice of running it by the cooker, or the washing machine which leaks a little
[11:50]<@Calum> wow really?
[11:50]<+camerongray> Yeah
[11:51]<@Calum> that's crazy

[11:52]<@Calum> I see
[11:52]<+camerongray> Also not checked where the TV connection comes in, will probably need to run that to the bedrooms too
[11:52]<@BC_Programming> lol http://imgur.com/pVePvRX
[11:53]<@BC_Programming> those 3-D Tvs man... they make you see people in real life in 3-D
[11:53]<+camerongray> bahaha!
[11:53]<@Calum> no a cable isn't going to work, it'll have to be powerline adapters. Shame, but I guess I can splash out a little on some 500mbps ones, should give me maybe 40MB/sec which isn't too bad
[11:53]<@Calum> haha nice
[11:53]<+camerongray> Ahh
[11:54]<+camerongray> I suppose it depends who wants TV/ethernet
[11:54]<+camerongray> I'll probably be the only person with Ethernet, unless they want it for consoles
[11:55]<+camerongray> Got 70m of ethernet though :P
[11:55]<+camerongray> For £7!
[11:55]<@Calum> heh
